Project Results
MOUNTAIN is developing practical ways to use outdoor education for youth inclusion. Its planned results include a shared training curriculum and blended learning materials for youth workers, a way to recognise skills gained through non-formal learning, and training for trainers. The project will also test its approach through local and European mountain activities, then publish guidelines so other organisations can use it.
Training curriculum and learning materials
The partners are developing a shared curriculum for youth workers and mountain activity leaders. It will bring together non-formal education methods and practical approaches to learning in mountain settings.
The curriculum will be supported by multilingual materials for blended learning, combining online resources with practical activities. These materials are intended to help organisations prepare and deliver inclusive outdoor education programmes.
Training for trainers
A training programme will give youth workers and mountain activity leaders the opportunity to learn and practise the MOUNTAIN approach. Through hands-on activities and exchange with colleagues from other countries, participants will build skills they can use in local programmes for young people

Recognising learning outdoors
MOUNTAIN will develop an approach for identifying and validating skills gained through non-formal and informal learning. This will help participants recognise what they have learned through outdoor activities, volunteering and work with others. The project also plans a certificate of participation linked to the learning pathway.
Local and European pilot activities
The partners will test the approach through local pilot activities in Italy, Spain and Belgium. These will include trekking, volunteering and activities that make a positive contribution to the community. Young participants will also have opportunities to connect with supportive peer groups after the initial activities.
A European pilot in the Picos de Europa mountains in Spain will bring participants together for an international outdoor learning experience. The pilots will help the partners assess and improve the approach.
Guidelines for other organisations
Drawing on the training and pilot activities, MOUNTAIN will produce guidelines for organisations that want to use the approach in their own settings. The guidelines will explain how to plan activities, support participants and adapt the model to local needs.
The project will also share experiences and resources through its partner network, communication activities and final events.
The change we hope to see
Alongside these practical resources, MOUNTAIN aims to strengthen youth workers’ skills and create more opportunities for young people to participate in outdoor and community life. For young participants, the project hopes to support wellbeing, confidence, a sense of belonging and recognition of their strengths.
